Earlier today, I was typing quotes from Glennon Doyle’s Untamed into Notes, in case I need to refer to them at a later date — and stumbled on this.
Wisdom is weird sometimes. You never know what you’ll scrawl down on a whim in random places to find in timely future circumstances. Things you don’t even remember writing that prove to be exactly what’s needed in that moment.
Enjoy this little bite to chew on and savour into your weekend. Comments welcome and cherished, forever and always.
I’m not sure who else needs to hear this today.
I just know I do.
And also —
that we should never forget — or refuse — to show up as we are.
To our desk
to our jobs
to our craft
to spirit
to strangers
to our loved ones
to the outside world (strolls in the forest and appointments and quick trips to the supermarket and everywhere in between)
and to ourselves
our inner world.
We spend so much time armouring up before showing up —
be it with fancier clothes or elaborate makeup
or a cleaner car or bigger bank balance
or excuses or a well-rehearsed counter-argument
or the sense that we need to have somehow pinpointed where perfection lives within us before daring to explore the space around it.
Imagine if we were to de-armour. Take it all off.
Bare our chests and soften to the barrage of discomfort.
What would that look like?
Feel like?
How would that be written?
Painted? Sung? Spoken?
Consider this the next time you question yourself and your abilities:
What if your imperfect — exactly as it first presents — is somebody else’s perfect?
Their permission slip to show up and let their soul drink from the oasis of crystalline authenticity?
If this resonates
whatever you’re shrinking from or armouring up against today
relax.
It doesn’t matter.
You do.
Your brilliance stands alone
without amendment or apology.
You’re art personified —
a living masterpiece of imperfect prose, notes, brushstrokes
never to be repeated.
Show up and let us drink you in.
